Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that can occur anywhere on th efoot, and lead to intense itching along with cracking, scaling, peeling and blistering of the skin.
Most commonly it occurs in moist areas of skin, such as in between the toes.
When skin vitality is compromised by being too wet, or too dry, a "portal of entry" is created, and opportunist fungus can take hold.
If left untreated, athlete's foot can spread and cause fungal nail infections which are harder to treat.
Feet can be treated with "over the counter" anti-fungal preparations containing ingredients such as terbinafine.
Foot wear should also be attended to. Shoes should be dry
ied out between wear, and regularly swapped in and out with other shoes.
Anti-fungal insoles and powders can be used to treat the shoes.
